Saudi pipeline halt, Joliet outage, and drone strikes send diesel to records
Diesel's on a tear again โ a Saudi pipeline attack, an Exxon refinery outage in Illinois, and dueling ceasefire narratives out of Ukraine have crack spreads and pump prices moving in one direction: up.
Diesel cracks are near $106/bbl and retail diesel sits above $6.28/gal as supply risk compounds: Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline shutdown after drone attacks threatens up to 4% of global oil supply, while Exxon's 264,000-bpd Joliet refinery went offline after a weekend power outage, tightening the Midwest fuel market further. Meanwhile the US-brokered Ukraine-Russia energy infrastructure truce is looking shaky โ Kyiv disputes any deal was reached, Ukrainian drones reportedly hit Russia's Syzran refinery, and IEA says the drone campaign is steadily degrading Russian refining capacity, all keeping a bid under ULSD futures. On the demand side, analysts are flagging real risk of $5 gasoline before the midterms as crude spikes ripple through to the pump.
